About the Role
As the Robotic Embedded Hardware & Power Engineer Apprentice at Origin, you will be a driving force in revolutionizing the construction industry through robotics. You will contribute to the design, development, integration, and certification of the core electrical architecture and power systems for our cutting-edge AI-powered robots.
This is a unique opportunity to join a founding team environment, where you will not only help build a ground-breaking product but also help shape the culture and direction of a rapidly growing company.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Architecture & Design
- Assist in the architecture and design of the robot's electrical system, including PCB design and wire harness development.
- Design and develop custom hardware solutions and PCBs (using tools like Altium, Eagle) to interface with and control various robotic components.
- Optimize hardware designs for performance, power efficiency, and reliability in challenging construction conditions.
Power Systems Development
- Architect, design, and integrate robust power systems, including battery management (BMS), high-power inverters, and charging systems.
- Ensure power systems meet the high-demand, all-day operational needs of construction robots.
- Develop and implement safety circuitry and protocols compliant with industry standards.
Rapid Prototyping & Testing
- Champion a rapid prototyping approach, leveraging off-the-shelf modules and self- soldered PCBs to accelerate development.
- Develop and execute "bring-up scripts" and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test benches for rigorous validation.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, EMI/EMC, and power-related issues.
Collaboration & Manufacturing
- Work closely with mechanical and software teams to ensure seamless integration of hardware, power, and control systems.
- Manage component sourcing and vendor relationships for electrical components.
- Collaborate with contract manufacturers (CMs) for PCB and wire harness assembly, ensuring quality control.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Education: Recent Graduate (Master's or Bachelor's) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
- Experience: Must have >6 months of relevant work experience (internships, co-ops, or project work included).
- Availability: We are looking for immediate joiners.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in PCB design software (Altium, Eagle) and schematic capture.
- Deep understanding of power electronics, battery management systems, and high- power DC/AC systems.
- Strong hands-on skills in prototyping, soldering, and debugging complex electrical systems.
- Strong understanding of communication protocols (e.g., CAN, Ethernet, I2C, SPI).
Soft Skills
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where your contributions will have a direct impact.
Preferred Qualifications
- Candidates with a portfolio of successful embedded hardware and power system projects.
- Experience in robotics, automotive (EV), or construction automation industries.
- Familiarity with regulatory approval processes (e.g., UL, CE, FCC) and high-voltage safety procedures.
