About the Role:

The Generative AI Lead will embed Generative AI (GenAI) practices across the institution, supporting academic and professional services teams. Acting as the subject matter expert, the role ensures ethical, compliant, and effective use of AI tools aligned with institutional policies. The postholder will advise on policy implementation, provide training, and drive GenAI adoption across multiple departments.

Key Responsibilities:
• Act as institutional expert on GenAI, advising staff and students.
• Own and govern the full lifecycle of GenAI models.
• Establish benchmarks, safety gates, and risk thresholds for AI systems.
• Integrate GenAI into faculty and student-facing services.
• Collaborate with academic and professional teams to implement GenAI strategies.
• Develop and maintain prompt libraries, exemplars, and best practices.
• Ensure compliance with HR, academic misconduct, and data protection regulations.
• Chair the Generative AI Special Interest Group (SIG) and participate in PMO projects.
• Lead compliance audits and reporting frameworks for GenAI use.
• Support institution-wide ethical, inclusive, and sustainable AI practices.

Required Skills and Experience:
• PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline.
• Significant Higher Education experience, including GenAI implementation.
• Proven experience managing full lifecycle of machine learning models.
• Ability to design evaluation frameworks and implement safety measures.
• Expertise in Generative AI tools and their application in academic and operational contexts.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and training skills.
• Knowledge of HR, academic misconduct, and data protection compliance (GDPR).
• Experience working collaboratively across departments.

Desirable Skills and Experience:
• Experience developing or evaluating AI prompt libraries and exemplars.
• Experience supporting digital transformation or large-scale technology rollouts.
