About the Role

We are currently offering an exciting opportunity for an Internship (m/f/d) – AI-Based Parameter Tuning for Structural Optimization to join our R&D team.
Become part of a highly technical R&D team developing advanced workflows for structural and multiphysics optimization using commercial finite element solvers such as Abaqus and optimization technologies including Tosca and Isight. These solutions support the 3DEXPERIENCE® Platform and next-generation Gen7 generative optimization technologies.

This internship focuses on applying Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and surrogate modeling to improve the robustness and efficiency of non-parametric structural optimization. The goal is to reduce computational costs and minimize trial-and-error by enabling intelligent parameter tuning for topology optimization workflows.

Role Description & Responsibilities

  • You will support research and development activities related to AI-assisted parameter tuning in sensitivity-based structural optimization workflows

  • You will investigate and implement machine learning strategies for parameter tuning in topology optimization within generative design workflows

  • You will create and curate representative training datasets covering different optimization scenarios, including stiffness-driven, strength-driven, and nonlinear designs

  • You will define and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate optimization performance and machine learning model effectiveness

  • You will explore and apply surrogate modeling techniques to approximate structural responses and improve computational efficiency

  • You will collaborate with R&D engineers to prototype, implement, and validate algorithms using programming languages such as Python, Fortran, or C++

Qualifications

  • You are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field

  • You have strong mathematical, mechanical, and numerical analysis skills

  • You have knowledge of the Finite Element Method (FEM) and structural optimization, particularly topology optimization

  • You are familiar with optimization methods such as adjoint sensitivities and mathematical programming approaches (e.g., MMA)

  • You have an interest in or basic understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), or surrogate modeling techniques

  • You have programming experience in Python, Fortran, and/or C++, and work in a structured, self-motivated manner with good English communication skills

What's in it for you

  • Flexible working hours with the possibility to work partially outside the office

  • Learning from and working with highly qualified, dedicated and diverse teams

  • Possibility for professional development in many different domains within our 3DEXPERIENCE University and LinkedIn Learning programs

  • Additional benefits & perks such as Urban Sports Club membership (because who doesn't love staying fit while having fun?) and of course, unlimited coffee, fruit, and drinks at the office, we’ve got you covered ;)
