About the Role

Senior AI Healthcare Engineer
£70,000 - £85,000
London or Paris
Series B
Full Time, Perm
A deep-tech healthcare AI company is looking for a Senior AI Healthcare Engineer to lead the development of machine learning systems that help clinicians make better diagnostic decisions. The company builds AI that integrates directly with clinical imaging equipment and hospital workflows, combining proprietary datasets, clinical expertise, and cutting-edge computer vision research into products used in real clinical environments.

This is not a standard ML engineering role. It sits at the intersection of research science, clinical collaboration, and product impact — requiring someone who can work on long-horizon R&D one day and translate that work into a deployable, regulatory-grade system the next.

The company is strategically backed by a major global medical device manufacturer and providing significant resource, stability, and access to world-class imaging technology, while operating with the speed and ambition of a scale-up.
The Role
You will own the development and validation of AI models for medical imaging, designing novel algorithms, managing clinical datasets, and driving research initiatives that shape the product roadmap for years ahead.
You will work directly with clinicians and medical specialists, translating complex diagnostic workflows into machine learning problems and building the evidence base needed for regulatory validation.
Requirements
  • PhD or equivalent research experience in AI, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years developing machine learning systems in production or clinical environments
  • Deep expertise in computer vision for medical imaging — ultrasound, radiology, or similar modalities
  • Strong background in model development, evaluation, and clinical validation for safety-critical applications
  • Experience managing medical imaging data pipelines, annotation workflows, and dataset curation
  • Proven ability to work directly with clinicians — translating diagnostic goals into ML problems
  • Familiarity with regulatory evaluation processes for healthcare AI including CE marking or FDA pathways
  • Experience contributing to IP, patents, or novel research with demonstrable product impact
  • Comfortable leading research initiatives and mentoring junior researchers
  • Fluent in English — French is a meaningful advantage
  • Background in women's health, fetal imaging, or prenatal diagnostics
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and validate novel AI algorithms for medical imaging applications
  • Manage long-term research pipelines maintaining technological leadership
  • Oversee clinical dataset curation — coordinating annotation efforts with medical experts
  • Translate clinical diagnostic workflows into deployable ML systems
  • Develop rigorous evaluation methodologies for safety-critical AI models
  • Contribute technical documentation supporting CE or FDA regulatory submissions
  • Bridge the gap between algorithm development and production deployment
  • Collaborate across engineering, clinical, and product teams
