The Risk Analytics team helps the risk community across Woolworths Group use data to make risk-informed choices with confidence and helps them focus on what matters most. The team drives the organisation towards the effective use of data and analytics to support decision-making and early detection of issues across Woolworths Group


What you’ll do

Work on a variety of data engineering projects within the risk team in collaboration with data science and analytics team members. As an experienced Data Engineer you will be designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines in the cloud.


  • Data Configuration:
    Design and develop scalable, reliable, and efficient data pipelines using GCP technologies such as BigQuery, Cloud Dataflow, Cloud Storage and Pub/Sub.
  • Data Development: Develop, optimise and schedule data workflows to ensure data quality, integrity and security throughout the entire data lifecycle. Perform data modelling, schema design and performance tuning to support efficient data storage and retrieval.
  • Support AI & Machine Learning Initiatives: Engineer and maintain scalable data pipelines for model training, validation, and inference. You will be crucial in creating and managing data feeds for our AI agents and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems, working closely with the AI/ML team.
  • Data Integration: Architect and implement data models, schemas, and structures that support optimal data storage, retrieval and analysis.
  • Data Governance: Implement data governance practices and ensure compliance with Group Data Management policies Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines, proactively identifying and resolving issues to ensure system stability and performance.

What you’ll bring

A thirst for continuous improvement and staying up to date with the latest advancements in GCP technologies and providing recommendations for adopting new tools and frameworks to enhance data engineering capabilities. You will also bring a familiarity with data governance, data security, and compliance frameworks and strong collaboration skills to work effectively within a cross functional team environment.


  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science or a related field
  • 4+ years of experience as a Data Engineer
  • Strong understanding of data modelling, ETL/ELT processes, data integration techniques, and engineering principles
  • Practical experience building Data Engineering solutions using Google Cloud (GCP) or other major cloud platforms
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g. Git) and CI/CD practices
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as SQL (required), Python (required), C# (desirable),Java (desirable) with experience in writing efficient and scalable code
  • Experience with orchestration tools like Airflow, Cloud Dataflow, Cloud Storage
  • Experience in configuring workflow schedules using tools such as Apache Airflow, Kubenettes etc
  • Basic hands-on experience with visualisations tools such as Tableau and Looker Studio (desirable)
