About the Role

Argotec is an Italian aerospace company specializing in the production of small satellite platforms (from 6U Cubesats up to 250kg-platforms) and innovative products to improve the comfort of space explorers. To support our Company’s growth, we are looking for an enthusiastic AI & Data Analytics Engineer who will be part of our Software Unit, contributing to the design and development of AI/ML‑enabled services and applications for both flight and ground software. The role involves work on data‑driven capabilities for small satellite platforms across multiple mission domains, such as Earth Observation, Space Weather, Space Situational Awareness, and the Argotec Ground Segment.

DUTIES

As an AI & Data Analytics Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing and optimizing AI/ML applications for both flight and ground software. You will collaborate with the rest of the team to develop, integrate, and test advanced onboard and ground‑based data processing modules supporting applications in Earth Observation, Space Weather, Space Situational Awareness, while aiming at reusability, portability and scalability for future missions.

The activities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Design and develop software for space applications and services;
  • Work throughout the whole software development lifecycle, from requirements definition to test and result reporting;
  • Configure and tailor data processing environments and frameworks for both on‑board and ground‑based AI/ML applications;
  • Participate in the integration and testing of the on-board processing frameworks and AI/ML modules within flight and ground software, ensuring reliable execution in mission environment;
  • Identify and support a core set of tools for data analysis, model evaluation, and performance optimization;
  • Design and develop tools (e.g., scripts, simulators, data pipelines) that help the team deliver high‑quality AI‑enabled software;
  • Cooperate with other Engineering teams to define system architectures and integrate AI/ML Applications considering mission constraints and operational requirement;
  • Support the path‑to‑production for deployed AI solutions, both on‑orbit and on the ground
  • Maintain AI and data processing solutions deployed in orbit throughout the satellite lifecycle, supporting mission operations and continuous improvement
  • Contribution to continuous improvement, documentation quality and knowledge‑sharing within the team.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Software Engineering or related technical fields (or proven equivalent experience);
  • 2-3 years of experience in a similar role will be considered as a plus;
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams;
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communication in English.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Good understanding of AI/ML theory and data analysis workflows;
  • Familiarity with the full AI/ML development lifecycle (training, validation, testing, deployment and monitoring);
  • Good skills in software design and development in Python and C/C++;
  • Familiarity with Deep Learning frameworks, toolkits and formats (PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenVino, ONNX, others);
  • Knowledge of Git and familiarity with CI/CD fundamentals and best practices;
  • Good understanding of Linux operating system;
  • Experience with scripting languages (Bash, Shell, others)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, working under tight deadlines;
  • Continuous learning attitude and commitment to excellence;
  • Flexibility and adaptability to evolving requirements and stakeholder needs;
  • Ability to listen, understand, and proactively share information.

ADDITIONAL ASSETS

  • Good familiarity with common architecture and software design patterns (best practices);
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (BitBucket, Jenkins, SonarQube);
  • Familiarity with Computer Vision fundamentals and common techniques for image analysis;
  • Knowledge of relational and non-relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQLite, MongoDB);
  • Experience with containerization and virtualization technologies (e.g., Docker, virtual machines);
  • Experience with embedded programming, microcontroller-based systems and Real-Time Operating Systems;
  • Experience with Agile methodologies, software and hardware development lifecycle, system design;
  • Experience in one or more of the following domains: Earth Observation, Space Weather, Space Situational Awareness;
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques for EO data pre-processing (radiometric and geometric corrections, SAR data pre-processing, others);
  • Familiarity with electronics equipment and tools (Power Supplies, Multimeters, Oscilloscopes, Signal Generators, etc.).
