About the Role
- Scale-up Fintech
- Newly created role
- Drive AI adoption
Pay.com.au is a high-growth fintech redefining B2B payments, helping over 50,000 businesses process billions in payments and earn billions in points through its PayRewards program. They turn everyday business spend into extraordinary value through transfer partners such as Qantas, Virgin Australia and Singapore Airlines.
Founded in Melbourne, the company sits at the intersection of payments, credit and loyalty. Businesses use the platform to pay suppliers, manage expenses and earn rewards.
The company has grown rapidly in recent years, with revenue more than doubling in FY2025. As part of its next stage of growth, Pay.com.au is expanding internationally and preparing for a potential ASX listing.
The Role
We're looking for an AI Adoption Lead to help identify and implement practical ways AI can improve how the business operates.
This is not a product management role, nor is it a pure engineering position. Instead, the focus is on experimentation, rapid prototyping and applying AI to real operational problems across the organisation.
The goal is to find someone who enjoys building and testing things. Someone who is constantly experimenting with new AI tools, thinking about practical use cases, and building lightweight solutions that make teams more effective.
A large part of the role will involve identifying friction in existing workflows, testing whether AI can improve them, building simple MVPs and iterating based on real feedback from teams.
The emphasis is on speed, experimentation and practical outcomes rather than large transformation programs.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Identify opportunities where AI can improve internal workflows across operations, marketing, sales and other teams
- Rapidly prototype AI-powered tools, automations or workflows
- Test ideas quickly and iterate based on feedback from internal teams
- Work with engineers and data teams to safely deploy useful solutions
- Experiment with emerging AI tools and frameworks
- Help build internal momentum and capability around AI adoption
- Translate AI capabilities into practical business applications
- This role reports directly to a senior leader in the business and will work closely with engineering, data, marketing and operations teams.
- Customer verification and operational workflows that currently involve manual steps
- Marketing asset creation and campaign experimentation
- Extracting insights from sales conversations and internal communications
- Agent-based workflow automation across internal systems
Technology Environment
The role will interact with a range of internal systems and data sources, including AWS infrastructure, Databricks and other operational platforms used across the business.
You’ll also work closely with engineers, analysts and data scientists who can help support the development and deployment of useful solutions.
What Success Looks Like
In the first three to six months, success will come from building working prototypes and demonstrating clear value for internal teams. Examples might include automating a repetitive operational task, building a tool to extract insights from internal data, or creating an AI workflow to speed up a marketing or sales process.
Over time, the goal is to embed AI into several core workflows across the business and help teams work more efficiently.
About You
This role will suit someone who spends a lot of time experimenting with AI tools and thinking about how to apply them to real problems.
You don’t need to be a deep machine learning specialist, but you should be comfortable working with modern AI tooling.
You must be someone who:
- Regularly experiments with new AI tools and models
- Enjoy building prototypes, MVPs and small automation tools
- Think about how AI can improve real workflows
- Are comfortable working independently in a lean environment
- Are confident in challenging existing processes
- Have experience working with tools such as Python, LLM APIs, automation platforms or modern AI frameworks
- Hybrid role, 3 days in and 2 at home. Office currently in Elsternwick, soon to relocate to Windsor
- Salary: $120-150k + super, negotiable for someone exceptional
