ZAP IN APP builds intelligent visitor management systems used globally across corporate offices, schools, manufacturing facilities, data centres and even movie sets. Our platform integrates real-time systems, AI-powered workflows, and secure cloud infrastructure to deliver modern, reliable visitor experiences.

We are expanding our AI-enabled product capabilities and are hiring a Full Stack Developer with strong TypeScript expertise and hands-on experience building production web and mobile systems. This role includes contributing to conversational AI, real-time communication systems, and distributed cloud infrastructure.

This is a mid-level individual contributor role with meaningful ownership across features and system improvements.

What You’ll Do

You will contribute across frontend, backend, and AI-integrated systems.

Application Development

• Build and maintain web applications using React and Next.js
• Develop and support mobile features using React Native
• Implement backend services using NestJS and TypeScript
• Design and integrate RESTful and real-time APIs

Real-Time & Distributed Systems

• Implement WebSocket-based features using Socket.io
• Contribute to systems using Redis pub/sub
• Support multi-region PostgreSQL deployments
• Assist in scaling services deployed via AWS ECS

AI & Agentic Systems

• Integrate LLM-powered features using OpenAI APIs
• Contribute to RAG pipelines and embedding-based retrieval systems
• Work on voice-enabled interfaces (ASR, TTS, WebRTC, LiveKit)
• Support AI-driven workflows including OCR and facial recognition

Infrastructure & Security

• Deploy and maintain services on AWS (ECS, RDS, S3, ElastiCache)
• Follow secure coding practices and cloud security principles
• Contribute to performance optimization and reliability improvements

What We’re Looking For

Required Experience

• 2+ years professional experience building production systems using TypeScript
• Experience developing with React (Next.js experience preferred)
• Experience working with Node.js frameworks (NestJS preferred)
• Hands-on experience deploying or maintaining applications on AWS
• Experience implementing real-time systems using WebSockets
• Strong SQL skills and experience designing performant PostgreSQL schemas

Preferred / Strong Assets

• Experience integrating LLMs, embeddings, or AI APIs into applications
• Experience working with RAG architectures
• Familiarity with Docker-based deployments
• Experience working in small, fast-moving engineering teams
• Exposure to voice systems (ASR, TTS, VAD) or WebRTC
• Experience optimizing backend performance and query efficiency

We are not expecting deep research-level AI experience. We are looking for engineers comfortable building and integrating AI-powered features into real-world applications.

• Contribute meaningfully to backend architecture or database optimization
• Demonstrate ownership from feature design through deployment

Work Environment

This is a full-time, onsite role based in Waterloo, Ontario (5 days per week in office). You will work closely with a small cross-functional team of engineers and product stakeholders.
