About the Role

ABOUT TEMPO

With over 30,000 customers, including a third of Fortune 500 companies, Tempo is trusted by organizations across the globe to make their workflows work better.

We create a suite of integrated solutions for time management, resource planning, budget management, roadmapping, program management, reporting, and more. Since our start in 2007 as a time-tracking tool built for a single client, Tempo has grown into the #1 time management add-on for Jira and one of the most trusted names in the Atlassian ecosystem.

We want everyone to work better, and we also want to be a tech company with a heart. Join us as we keep innovating our award-winning products and help the world work smarter, not harder.

ABOUT THE ROLE

AI Ops is Tempo's cross-company AI team. We own the AI infrastructure, the AI applications, and the change management that let every function get value from AI efficiently. We are not tied to one department: we build the shared platforms and agents that automate real work, and we do the enablement that turns them into results across the business.

As an AI Builder on this team, you take an operational problem from idea to production and then to real adoption. You find where AI can help, build the agent or workflow, wire it into the systems people already use, and stay with it until it reliably saves time. You build the applications and the shared infrastructure underneath them.

You report to Tyler McNally, who leads AI Ops, and you build inside our governance and standards layer: fast, but responsibly, with identity, auditability, and data and vendor risk treated as design constraints from the start.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Find and build

- Partner with teams across the company to map how work happens today, find the highest-value places AI can help, and decide what to automate, what to assist, and what to leave to a person.

- Build and ship production-grade AI agents and workflows end to end, primarily in Claude Code and the Anthropic Claude application programming interface (API), wiring them into the tools the business already uses (BigQuery, Jira, Confluence, Slack, Google Workspace, Salesforce).

- Build the shared infrastructure the rest of the team depends on: connectors, reusable skills and templates, retrieval and memory layers, and the standards that keep automations consistent and secure as they scale.

Drive adoption

- Take each solution to real adoption: document it, train and enable the people who use it, and make it easy to trust and, where it fits, self-serve.

- Measure what matters (adoption, hours saved, reliability) and keep iterating so the value compounds instead of fading after launch.

Build responsibly

- Design guardrails, human approvals, logging, and evaluation into every workflow, treating safety, auditability, and data governance as first-class, not afterthoughts.

- Stay current with a fast-moving space and bring back practical recommendations, not hype.

WHO YOU ARE:

- 4+ years in software, applied AI, data, or automation engineering, including taking solutions from prototype to production.

- Hands-on experience building agentic AI: multi-step agents that use tools, hold context, and take real actions, not just chat or content generation.

- Comfortable in Python (or similar) and wiring up systems that don't natively talk to each other: prompt engineering, tool and function calling, API integration, and grounding against real data.

- Hands-on with a modern agent build surface such as Claude Code and the Anthropic Claude API, Google Vertex AI, or comparable.

- Strong systems thinking: you see dependencies, edge cases, and failure modes before they bite.

- A change-maker's instinct: you can sit with a leader in any function, understand their process, ship the automation, and drive the adoption that makes it stick.

- Clear communication with both non-technical teams and senior leadership; you can explain what AI can and can't do.

- A bias toward shipping and measuring over planning, while respecting security, identity, and data governance.

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. Experience in the Atlassian ecosystem, or building automations for operations, go-to-market, or finance teams, is a plus.

- Based in North America, with flexibility to work across North American time zones.
