About the Role
Join the Artificial Intelligence Group at JHU/APL to support foundational AI research addressing national security challenges.
Your Role
Here’s what you will be doing:
• Support research programs targeting foundational AI advances with cross-mission impact.
• Work on improving alignment of AI agents for human-machine teaming and wargaming.
• Train multimodal foundation models on language and sensor data.
• Develop intelligent robots using agentic AI for complex, self-directed tasks.
• Assess, mitigate, and exploit vulnerabilities of frontier AI models.
• Conduct mission-driven test and evaluation (T&E) of novel AI research.
• Collaborate within the Artificial Intelligence Group in the Research and Exploratory Development Department (REDD) and the Intelligent Systems Center (ISC).
• Engage in interdisciplinary projects with opportunities for publication and high external visibility.
About You
The company is looking for candidates who meet the following qualifications:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
• Experience supporting AI/ML research on campus or during an internship.
• Proficiency in Python programming and experience using PyTorch.
• Eligibility for a DoD Top Secret security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
Additional qualifications that are advantageous include:
• Maintaining an active portfolio of open-source software projects on GitHub.
• Experience applying AI/ML to real-world data such as full-motion video, satellite or medical imagery, electronic health records, or audio recordings.
• Experience building applications in Docker.
• Experience developing software for robotic systems using ROS/ROS2.
• Publication of work in scientific journals and/or conferences.
Compensation & Benefits
• Annual salary range: $85,000 to $165,000, prorated for part-time employees.
• Potential bonuses, sign-on bonuses, relocation benefits, locality allowances, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
