Senior Scientist Bioinformatics - with a focus on machine learning / artificial intelligence

Your position

As a Senior Scientist Bioinformatics at Genetwister, you will shape and advance Genetwister’s machine learning and artificial intelligence research within bioinformatics and plant breeding. As part of the Bioinformatics team, you will drive the development and application of novel computational approaches on large-scale genomic data, with direct impact on modern plant breeding. In this role, you will focus on advanced data analysis and the design, implementation, and optimization of bioinformatics pipelines, particularly novel ML/AI tools and methods to accelerate interpretation of functional genomic data, ultimately providing leads for plant breeding. You will operate with a high level of autonomy and provide scientific leadership across projects and research themes. As an established innovator in your field, you will define new research directions, mentor scientists, and strengthen Genetwister’s ML/AI capabilities at a strategic level.

Your profile

• PhD degree in Artificial Intelligence, Bioinformatics, Data science, or a related field.
• Creative scientist with more than five years of post doctoral (academic or industry) experience in working with ML/AI methods, preferably related to genomics data.
• Strong track record of performing independent research, e.g. through first-author publications.
• Excellent understanding of machine learning algorithms and genomics data.
• Proficient in python, R or other relevant programming language, with a good grasp of version control systems (git).
• Experience with project management is preferred.
• Sensitive to client’s needs and capable of translating opportunities into attractive research proposals.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Fluent in English.
• A highly motivated individual who seeks high quality standards in his/her professional employment and values transparency and accountability.
• Strong team player, efficiently working and sharing knowledge in multidisciplinary project teams.
